All that is gold does not glitter: Income and nutrition in Tanzania

A substantial acceleration in improving nutrition is required to eradicate malnutrition by 2030. Income growth and increased labor productivity are key realize this, but some income sources employment sectors might be more effective reducing than others. We investigate the link between rural Tanzania, using two rounds of Tanzania National Panel Survey. use both monetary non-monetary measures food consumption, analyze besides caloric intake also important micronutrients, such as iron, zinc vitamin A, nutrient deficiencies. compare gender earner. find that for household nutrition, terms quantity quality. a higher share from agricultural self-employment well jointly earned strongly correlated with micronutrient across households. do not evidence support assertion solely women associated improved nutrition. Our results imply closing gap agriculture non-farm sectors, raising incomes within agriculture, strategy improve diversifying away agriculture.
